How we started...

We started with immerse | journey, a submission to a competition which resulted in screening at one of the largest venues in Honolulu, Hawaii: the Neal Blaisdell Center on July 9, 2016. We hadn't even known each other a month. We still don't know what we're doing... but as collaborators, we've decided to continue to create short films every month until February 2017 to see where things go as artists and as two people who just started dating.

About Eric...

I have been living in Hawai'i since 2011, on the windward side of O'ahu by way of California. I’m originally from a small town in upstate New York. I attended undergrad at State University of New York at Fredonia in Graphic Design and attended John F. Kennedy University for my MFA in Studio Arts.

As an artist, I always search for scenes with enchanted structures. I draw from the physical environment that surrounds me. My direction is based on my vision of intimate connections to the environment and personal introspection. My volume of artwork is a journey through alternate realities of acrylic paintings and digital video. Playful inquiry transforms external spaces and intimate body landscapes into physical and symbolic portals, openings that invite viewers into a world of fluid boundaries and interconnected levels. I draw on an ecstatic palette and a variety of stylistic techniques, including abstraction, naturalism and graphic symbolism, project the alternate world of intuitive mountains, oceans and symbolic architecture. I try to portray fields of perceptions that shift as you travel deep within them.

About Marysol...

I'm trained as an architect and a project manager by profession… frankly, I’m a tenacious arty nerd who tries hard at Everything. I was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii from Filipino immigrant parents. I had left Hawai'i to pursue my career, I’ve worked in San Francisco, Hong Kong, Guam and Seattle. I moved back home to Honolulu in November 2015on rather somber circumstances: to be with my aging parents, dropping the life I had made in Seattle.

Despite growing up in Hawai'i, childhood was far from one in "paradise," instead filled with memories rather forgotten. Leaving a well-networked career path and a marriage engagement, I took my return home as an opportunity to make back a childhood and to "fill my cup." Now, my priority is to "live the dream" on my own terms solo, aggressively expanding my comfort zone because I've been told and wholly believe that THAT is where the *magic* happens. In the process, I'm rediscovering life dreams I completely forgot about and pursuing them with maximum vigor, two specifically: (1) learning how to surf and (2) becoming an "artist." This... this is definitely Living The Dream.

In the short time since I’ve met Eric, we have had a constant stream of ambitious natural banter. He’s been incredibly supportive of my personal journey since my return to Hawaii and also pushing me as an artist to new levels that I would never have achieved without him. I'm constantly striving to do the same for him. For that, I will forever be grateful to have him as a collaborator.
